DUSHANBE, November 15, 2010, Asia-Plus -- The fifth meeting of the Interim Ecology Commission of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) took place in Dushanbe on November 12.
According to the Majlisi Namoyandagon press service, the coverage of the ecological problems in media was one of major topics of the meeting.
Ansor Niyozov, the head of sub-department at the Public Servants Advanced Training Institute under the President of Tajikistan also an expert with the Interim Ecology Commission, reported on Tajikistan’s media coverage of environmental issues.
Members of the Interim Ecology Commission MPs Said Yoqubzod, Jumaboy Sanginov and Shodi Shabdolov also made speeches at the meeting. They touched upon issues related to passiveness of coverage of the environmental problems as well as water and hydropower policy of the country in media, analysis of the environmental issues and cooperation with independent media.
We will recall that the Majlisi Namoyandagon passed a resolution on the establishment of the Interim Ecology Commission on April 14 this year and MP Rustam Latipov was elected to head the commission that consists of 15 MPs. The commission is dedicated to deal with issues related to ensuring the environmental security of Tajikistan and it coordinates activities of and interaction between the parliament’s lower house and governmental structures for environmental protection.
