DUSHANBE, March 12, 2011, Asia-Plus -- Prosecutor-General Sherkhon Salimzoda has delivered a report on supervision of observance and implementation of laws in Tajikistan in 2010 at a session of the country’s upper chamber (Majlisi Milli) of parliament.
The fourth session of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament), presided over by its head, Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, took place in Dushanbe on March 11.
Tajik chief prosecutor, in particular, noted that more than 30,000 hectares of irrigated lands have been illegally grabbed in the country over the past decade.
The Majlisi Milli speaker pointed to the necessity of tightening public prosecutor’s supervision of land use in the country. Negligent performance of duty by some prosecutors has led to increase in th number of cases of illegal allotment of lands for housing and when illegally built houses are demolished, people’s trust in the government bodies decreases, Ubaidulloyev noted.
As an example, the speaker mentioned the situation in the Pervomayskiy settlement of the Qushteppa jamoat (community) in Roudaki district. He expressed hope that the prosecutor-general will take adequate legal measures to solve that issue and officials involved in illegal allotment of lands in Qushteppa jamoat for housing will be punished.
The Majlisi Milli gave consent to the appointment Habibullo Vohidov Deputy Prosecutor-General of Tajikistan.
The Majlisi Milli members also seconded the laws on investigation and search operations, free economic zones, environmental monitoring, accounting and financial reporting, etc.
