DUSHANBE, May 25, 2011, Asia-Plus  -- The public transport fares in Dushanbe will rise 50-100 percent beginning on June 1.

Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev signed an appropriate decree on this subject on May 24, Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor’s office said.

According to him, bus fare will rise from 60 diram to 1.20 somoni and trolleybus fare will rise from 50 to 70 diram.

The fare for gasoline-powered minibus Gazel will rise to 1.60 somoni and the fare for the liquefied-natural-gas-powered minivan of the same type will be 1.20 somoni.  Current fare for the Gazel minivan fluctuates from 70 diram to 1.00 somoni, irrespective of type of fuel.

The mayor also ordered that the natural-gas-powered minibuses, irrespective of forms of property, should have special marking.

The fare for the Korean minivan Hyundai Starex will rise from 1.00 to 1.60 somoni (60 percent rise).

Besides, new tariffs have been set for monthly season tickets.  The monthly bus pass for students will cost 28 somoni, the monthly trolleybus pass for students will cost 21 somoni and the monthly mixed pass for students will cost 32 somoni.  For other categories of citizens, the monthly bus pass will cost 36 somoni, the monthly trolleybus pass – 27 somoni and the monthly mixed pass – 42 somoni.

“The mayor also ordered relevant municipal services to find funds for payment of subsidies to motor transport enterprises and trolleybus depots for carrying persons entitled to a benefit,” the spokesman said.

As it had been reported earlier, public transport fairs will rise in Dushanbe beginning on June 1.  This measure, coordinated with the antimonopoly agency, has reportedly resulted from rising prices for fuel and spare parts.
