DUSHANBE, July 26, 2012, Asia-Plus  -- Tajik President Emomali Rahmon yesterday held an extraordinary meeting of the government to discuss the current situation in Khorog, the administrative center of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region, the president’s official website reports.

The meeting first heard reports from Prosecutor-General Sherkhon Salimzoda, Minister of Labor and Social Protection Mahmadamin Mahmadaminov and President of the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan Mamadsho Ilolov on the current situation in Gorno Badakhshan.

The government called on the population of Gorno Badakhshan, first of all residents of Khorog, to cooperate with public bodies in ensuring supremacy of law and making criminals answerable for their crimes.

The meeting members stressed that members of illegal armed groups must lay down their weapons and surrender.

The meeting members also noted that heads of relevant public bodies and the people of Gorno Badakhshan, first of all influential persons of this region, must take efforts to reestablish stability and mutual confidence and be active in preventing crimes and illegal actions of crime groups and separate persons, the source said.
