DUSHANBE, January 2, 2013, Asia-Plus – The year of 2012 was a successful and beneficial year for Tajikistan, President Emomali Rahmon noted in his address to the nation on the occasion of New Year.
In 2012, there were two fateful historic dates along with the 21st anniversary of Tajikistan’s Independence – these are the 15th anniversary of the National Unity Day and the 20th anniversary of the 16th session of the Shuroi Oil (Supreme Council – former Tajik parliament), the president said in his televised address on December 31, 2012.
“Due to these important historic events, we could take all necessary measures to ensure peace, stability and unity in our homeland and strengthening of foundation of national statehood and progressive socioeconomic development of our independent country,” Emomali Rahmon stressed.
Another important achievement of 2012 was Tajikistan’s admission to the World Trade Organization (WTO), the president said, noting that Tajikistan’s admission to WTO was an important step towards further Improvement of image of Tajikistan and the Tajik people on international arena.
According to him, introduction of more than 5000-meter Shahriston tunnel into operation was also one of the most significant events of the last year. “We have managed to bring our country out of the internal communication deadlock and ensure the year-round transport communication for the population,” the head of state noted.
