DUSHANBE, June 12, 2013, Asia-Plus  -- Tajikistan now may limit circulation of foreign currency in its territory.

The session of Tajikistan’s upper house (Majlisi Milli) that took place in Dushanbe on June 12 seconded the RT Law “On Currency Regulation and Currency Control.”

Speaking at the session, MP Saymurod Taghoyev noted, “Under this law, the government has the right to limit circulation of foreign currency in Tajikistan in the case of a sharp devaluation of the national currency, the somoni, and for elimination of threats to the national economy.”

“But the free movement of foreign currency circulation may be restrained for the period of not more than six months,” Taghoyev added.

We will recall that the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) approved the currency regulation and control bill on April 24.

According to the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) head Abdujabbor Shirinov, the new law determines legal foundations and principles of currency regulation and control in Tajikistan.
