DUSHANBE, June 19, 2013, Asia-Plus -- On Wednesday June 19, President Emomali Rahmon visited the Sughd Free Economic Zone (FEZ Sughd), where he attended a ceremony of an official opening of an aluminum profile production enterprise, Ofarin Aluminum.
According to the president’s official website, the enterprise is engaged in manufacturing stained-glass windows as well as aluminum doors and window frames. The enterprise is provided with more than 13 million somoni worth of state-of-the-art equipment delivered from Turkey and China.
The Sughd Free Economic Zone or FEZ Sughd is a free economic zone located in Sughd province in the territory of the south-west industrial zone of the city of Khujand. Sughd FEZ was established in 2008 by a parliamentary decree on 320 hectares of land for 25 years and began operating in August 2009. The zone offers customs and tax incentives to qualified investors that invest at least 500,000 USD and import at least 90% of the technology and equipment.
While in Khujand, the president also attended a ceremony of an official opening of a new Palace of Sports with an overall space of 8,300 square meters.
Rahmon reportedly met with 130 orphaned children from Khujand in one of halls of the palace and gave presents to them.
