DUSHANBE, October 10, 2013, Asia-Plus -- As part of his working trip to the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), President Emomali Rahmon visited the Ishkashim district yesterday evening.
While in Ishkashim, the president visited border unit 2703 and got acquainted with a farm run by this unit, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
Potatoes produced by this unit are reportedly enough to meet requirements of border units deployed in Ishkashim and Murgab districts as well as the military hospital in Khorog.
Rahmon also visited a number dehqon (peasant) farms in Ishkashim, where he got acquainted with work of local potato growers. He ordered representatives of relevant ministries to deliver eight tractors to Ishkashim before the beginning of the spring sowing campaign.
He also held a meeting with district administrators of Ishkashim to discuss issues related to socioeconomic development of the district.
On return to Khorog, President Rahmon reportedly held a meeting with 162 orphans from all districts of Gorno Badakhshan.
He provided financial assistance to them and said that after finishing school they may enter any of Tajikistan’s universities by presidential quota.
During his visit to Darvoz and Vanj districts, President Rahmon provided financial assistance to 22 orphans from these two districts of Gorno Badakhshan.
