DUSHANBE, September 8, Asia-Plus -- The board (Shuro) of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament discussed amendments proposed to the RT Law “On Militsiya (Police)” at a September 8 meeting, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov.

Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, says the board also discussed bills proposing amendments to the country’s laws on food security and the national budget for 2014.

“The meeting participants also discussed issues related to ratification of a grant agreement between the Government of Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank on the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Regional Improvement of Border Services (RIBS) Project, a government-to-government agreement between Tajikistan and Afghanistan on encouragement and mutual protection of investments, a government-to-government agreement between Tajikistan, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on mutual allotment of lands for construction of premises for diplomatic missions,” Sultonov said.

The RIBS Project aims to accelerate the regional cooperation process by facilitating collaborative action through CAREC to remove barriers inhibiting regional travel and trade.  The project is expected to improve border-crossing points, logistics, and customs procedures in the region.
