DUSHANBE, May 21, 2015, Asia-Plus -- The Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) has endorsed amendments proposed by the government to the country’s law on weapons.

A regular sitting of the first session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the fifth convocation, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov, was held on May 20.

Presenting the bill proposing amendments to the law on weapons, Tajik Interior Minister Ramazon Rahimzoda noted that the bill was aimed at maintaining peace and stability in the country and ensuring safety of citizens.      

“Under these amendments, the government may buy up legally possessed pistols and revolvers from the population,” the minister, noting that 319 nationals of Tajikistan now legally possess pistols and revolvers of different modifications.

“Besides, the bill determines the procedure of collection of gas pistols from the population,” the minister stressed.

According to him, 20 gas pistols were confiscated from the population last year alone.
