DUSHANBE, October 19, 2015, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, who is currently on a three-day working visit to the northern province of Sughd, yesterday inaugurated a highway connecting the Ayni and Panjakent districts.
According to the Tajik president’s official website, this 112.6-kilometer highway has been built by China’ Sansiyan Beisin (phonetically spelled). Construction of the highway reportedly started in October 2012 and it was finished in October this year.
A total cost o the project, which also included construction of 31 bridges, was 15 million U.S. dollars.
The main purpose of the visit to Sughd is for the president to get acquainted with the socioeconomic situation of the area and inaugurate a number of economic, social and cultural facilities, the source said.
