DUSHANBE, November 4, 2015, Asia-Plus -- Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament has endorsed amendments proposed by the government to the country’s law on advocacy.

A regular sitting of the second session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the fifth convocation, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov, was held on November 4.

Presenting the bill amending the advocacy law, Minister of Justice Rustam Shohmurod noted that the amendments were aimed at improvement of legal services offered to the population and professional development of attorneys.

“Under these amendments, already convicted persons are prohibited from practicing law” the minister said.

Besides, persons dismissed from power-wielding and law enforcement agencies for corruption crimes or breach of oath are also prohibited from practicing law.

Persons who do not know the Tajik language and are not nationals of Tajikistan are also prohibited from offering legal services to the population, the minister added.

The Majlisi Namoyandagon today also discussed ad endorsed amendments proposed by the government to the country’s administrative code and administrative procedure code.
