Tajik Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the assassination of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov in Ankara.

In a letter sent to his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Aslov, in particular, noted that that inhuman act was aimed at violating all norms and rules of the civilized world order.  

Tajik minister noted that “Tajikistan and Russia share common stance on the issues related to combating challenges such as terrorism and extremism.”

Recall, strongly condemning the assassination of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrei Karlov in Ankara, the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the United Nations Security Council emphasized that there is no justification for targeting diplomatic personnel and civilians.

Reiterating the need to bring the perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of terrorist attacks to justice, the UN Security Council members reaffirmed that terrorism in all forms is constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, and that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable.

In their press statement, the members of the Council also stressed the fundamental principle of the inviolability of diplomatic agents and consular officers and the obligations, including under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, to take all appropriate steps to prevent any attack on diplomatic agents and consular officers.

A Turkish policeman shot dead Russia's Ambassador to Turkey, Andrei Karlov, on Monday apparently in protest the policeman at Russia's involvement in Aleppo.  The incident reportedly happened a day after protests in Turkey over Russian support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.  Andrei Karlov was attacked at the opening of an art exhibition in Ankara by a man believed to be an off-duty Turkish police officer.
