By president’s order veterans of the Great Patriotic war of 1941-1945 living in Tajikistan will receive 40,000 somonis (equivalent to 3,663 US dollars) each on the occasion of the Victory Day, according to the Tajik president’s press service.

“On the eve of the 79th anniversary of Victory Day, veterans of the Great Patriotic war of 1941-1945 living in Tajikistan will receive 40,000 somonis each,” the press service says, noting that representatives of the Government and President’s executive Office will distribute the one-time financial aid to war veterans in the cities and districts.

Local authorities have also provided one-time financial aid to war veterans living in their regions.

Thus, by capital mayor’s order veterans of the Great Patriotic war of 1941-1945 living in Dushanbe will receive 10,000 somonis on the occasion of the Victory Day.

In Sughd province, war veterans will receive 7,000 somonis each.  Besides, home front workers will receive 4,000 somonis each.  Sughd authorities reportedly allocated 306,000 somonis to provide one-time financial aid to ware veterans and home front workers living in the province.  

In Khatlon province, war veterans will receive 5,000 somonis each, Shodi Azizov, the Head of the Khatlon Social Protection Department, told Asia-Plus in an interview Tuesday afternoon.  

Only 24 veterans of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and 290 home front workers are estimated to be still alive in Tajikistan. 

Last year, 37 veterans of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 celebrated Victory Day in Tajikistan.

In 2022, 59 veterans of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 reportedly celebrated Victory Day in Tajikistan

98 war veterans were still alive in the country in 2021 and 168 war veterans celebrated Victory Day in Tajikistan in 2020.

“Over the past nineteen years, 9,875 war veterans passed away in Tajikistan,” an official source within the Council of Veterans of War told Asia-Plus in an interview on April 29.  

Most war veterans are living in Khatlon province -- ten people (14 in 2023), in Sughd province – six war veterans (11 in 2023), in Dushanbe – three people (6) in 2023, and districts subordinate to the center (RRP) – five war veterans (6 in 2023).

According to some sources, more than 300,000 residents of Tajikistan reportedly took part in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 and 92,000 of them died in battle.

65 of residents of Tajikistan were reportedly given the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.  Besides, 15 other Tajikistan’s residents were Full Holders of the Order of Glory.
