On Monday May 20, President Emomali Rahmon, who is also Head of the Government, held a government meeting with the participation of heads of both chambers of parliament, ministers and heads of a number of central structures and agencies.
The Tajik president’s official website says the meeting participants discussed issues related to the elimination of the consequences of natural disasters in different regions of the country, repair and reopening of damaged roads and providing necessary assistance to the affected people.
The head of state reportedly gave specific instructions to the officials regarding these issues and also to fulfill the tasks given on March 9 during the meeting with the activists, representatives of the society and religious servants, including to ensure the rule of law, stability and security in the society.
Recall, a number of floods and mudslides has affected Tajikistan this month. The Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan reported on March 6 that mudslides and floods caused by heavy rains killed three women. Two of them were killed by mudslides in Varzob district, and another one was killed by mudslide in Istaravshan, Sughd province.
The mudslides were reportedly registered in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), Sughd and Khatlon provinces as well as in several districts subordinate to the center (RRP).
