DUSHANBE, July 1, 2011, Asia-Plus -- Visiting U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) William Brownfield yesterday met here with senior representatives from the Drug Control Agency (DCA).
According to the DCA press center, Mr. Brownfield discussed with Tajik senior drug control officers plans of the United States on providing assistance to Tajikistan in combating drug trafficking and strengthening border security.
In the course of the talks, Tajik drug control chief Rustam Nazarov briefed the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State on the drug situation in Tajikistan, DCA activities and measures taken by the Tajik government to fight drug trafficking.
Mr. Brownfield, for his part, pointed out the significance of mutual cooperation and noted that his country was ready to provide assistance to Tajik law enforcement authorities in combating drug trafficking, particularly in forming new units at the DCA.
The sides also discussed the issue of construction of training center for Tajik drug control officers, the source said.
