DUSHANBE, September 27, 2011, Asia-Plus -- A 35-year-old resident of the Varzob district has attempted to travel to the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk with drugs in his stomach, the Drug Control Agency (DCA) press service reports.

The peddler was detained at the Dushanbe airport Monday night.  He reportedly ingested 60 wraps of narcotic drug that tested positive to heroin weighing some 500 grams.

The DCA investigation department has instituted criminal proceedings has instituted criminal proceedings against the detained drug peddler under the provision of Article 200 (3) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – drug trafficking; an investigation is under way.

Since the beginning of this year, officers from the Tajik counternarcotics agency have seized more than 800 kilograms of narcotics, the source said.
