DUSHANBE, November 21, 2011, Asia-Plus -- Officers from the Interior Ministry’s Drug Trafficking Department (drug police) have seized more than 90 kilograms of narcotics in one operation, carried out in the southern Khatlon province.
Mansour Bukhoriyev, head of the Interior Ministry''s Drug Trafficking Department, told Asia-Plus that an operation carried out by drug police officers in partnership with the Khatlon police special unit in the Shouroobod district Sunday night led to the arrest of a 25-year-old resident of Vose district, R.N. Six packages of narcotic drug that tested positive to cannabis weighing 90.7 kilograms were confiscated from him.
Besides, a 19-year-old resident of Dushanbe, H.A., was arrested in Varzob district on November 18 on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking. 149 wraps of narcotic drug that tested positive to heroin weighing 958 kilograms were confiscated from him. “He was attempting to transport the drugs heroin to other country,” Bukhoriyev said.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against both drug pushers and an investigation is under way.
Since the beginning of this year, Tajik police have reportedly seized 1,843 kilograms of narcotics.
