Tajikistan and Uzbekistan decide to strengthen trust and stability efforts at the border, RIA Novosti reported citing representative of the Uzbek National Security Service’s Border Control Committee as source.
According to the report, Tajik and Uzbek border officials met to discuss current situation at the Tajik-Uzbek border. “The meeting was held in a place not far from Bekabad frontier city. The meeting was attended by Uzbek Border Troops Commander, Major General Ruslan Mirzaev and Tajik Border Troops Commander, Lieutenant General Sherali Mirzo,” the source has said.
Top border officials of the two countries are planning to revise some existing border crossing and transit procedures.
A spokesman for the Tajik State Border Control Committee of the Tajik National Security Committee Hushnud Rahmatullaev confirmed that Tajik Border Troops Commander Sherali Mirzoev went to Sughd province several days ago. “That is why we are unable to confirm or deny information which appeared in RIA Novosti,” he said.
Meanwhile, several days ago Ozodi radio reported that residents of Matcha region observed multiple heavy military vehicles gathering close to Sardob place on the territory of Uzbekistan.
The total length of the Tajik-Uzbek border is more than 1.300km.
