DUSHANBE, October 8, 2012, Asia-Plus -- Officers from the Drug Control Agency (DCA) under the President of Tajikistan have reportedly seized a large amount of narcotic drug in Khatlon’s districts bordering Afghanistan.
According to the Drug Control Agency (DCA)’s press center, special operations carried out by the drug control officers in Shouroobod and Qumsangir districts at the end of last week led to the seizure of several sacks of narcotics that tested positive to cannabis weighing more than 102 kilograms and hashish weighing 58 kilograms.
The Drug Control Agency has instituted criminal proceedings and an investigation is under way.
Meanwhile, the Russian Federation will provide more than 5 million U.S. dollars to Tajik counter narcotics agency fort eh fight against drug trafficking.
An appropriate document was signed in Dushanbe by DCA director Rustam Nazarov and Russia’s Federal Drug Control Service (FSKN) head Viktor Ivanov on October 5. At a joint press conference with is Tajik counterpart, Russian President Vladimir Putin told journalists on October 5 that Russia will help Tajikistan train anti-drug personnel at Russian educational facilities.
