KHUJAND, January 14, 2013, Asia-Plus -- Kyrgyz national has been detained in the Tajik northern Sughd province for drug trafficking, according to the Interior Ministry’s office for Sughd province.
Resident of Kyrgyz Osh region, A.Sh., 38, was detained in the Bobojonghafurov district on January 13 and more than one kilogram of raw opium was confiscated from him, the source said.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the detained drug trafficker under the provisions of Article 200 (3) of Tajikistan’s Peal Code – drug trafficking; an investigation is under way.
In 2012, Sughd law enforcement authorities reportedly seized 568 kilograms of narcotics, five kilograms more than in 2011. A totaled included more than 100 kilograms of heroin, more than 344 kilograms of hashish and more than 122 kilograms of raw opium.
