DUSHANBE, January 15, 2013, Asia-Plus -- Tajik law-enforcement authorities seized some 6,000 kilograms of narcotics in 2012, which is 41.1 percent more than in 2011, according to the Drug Control Agency (DCA).
A totaled reportedly included 515 kilograms of heroin, 630 kilograms of raw opium and 4,800 kilograms of cannabis.
During the last year, Tajik security forces arrested 946 people on drug charges, including 28 foreigners (16 Afghans, five citizens of Iran, two citizens of Russia, two Uzbeks, one citizen of Ukraine, one citizen of Kyrgyzstan and one Kazakh citizen).
Meanwhile, 297 Tajik nationals were arrested in 2012 in other countries on drug charges, including 274 Tajiks arrested in the Russian Federation.
According to the statistical data from the Ministry of Health (MoH), the current number of officially registered drug-dependent persons in Tajikistan is 7,231 people, including 219 women.
The injecting drug users (IDUs) reportedly constitute 67.5 percent (4,882 people) of the overall number of the officially registered drug-dependent persons in the country.
