DUSHANBE, July 10, 2013, Asia-Plus – From July 6 to July 8, Lieutenant-General Rustam Nazarov, Director of the Drug Control Agency (DCA) under President of Tajikistan, was on a working visit to the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), according to the DCA press center.
While in Khorog, Nazarov met with senior officers from the DCA’s office for GBAO to review the results of the work carried out by drug control officers in the area of the first six months of this year and discuss measures to combat organized drug-trafficking groups and expand cooperation with law enforcement agencies of neighboring Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Tajik drug control chief reportedly also visited frontier posts and border-crossing checkpoints in Murgab, Ishkashim, Rushan and Darvoz districts in Gorno Badakhshan as well as the Jirgatol district in the Rasht Valley (eastern Tajikistan).
Rustam Nazarov also visited Kyrgyzstan’s Osh region, where he held talks with Gulamzhan Anarbayev, First Deputy Chairman of Kyrgyzstan’s State Drug Control Service. The sides discussed issues related to joint activities of the two drug control agencies to combat drug trafficking in the region, the DCA press center said.
