DUSHANBE, August 29, 2013, Asia-Plus - A meeting between the Director of the Drug Enforcement Agency under the President of Tajikistan, General Rustam Nazarov, and UN Representative on Afghanistan, Yan Kubis.
According to the Public Relations Department of the Drug Enforcement Agency, the parties discussed issues concerning fight against drug trafficking in Afghanistan and in the Central Asian region, as well as further cooperation perspectives in this area.
Special attention was paid to the situation in Afghanistan and perspectives of situation development in the region after 2014 during the meeting.
According to the published information, Yan Kubis praised the achievements of the Drug Enforcement Agency in fighting drug trafficking and noted that the Agency has a high reputation in many countries around the world.
Successful cooperation with Afghan colleagues was noted during the meeting. Last year communication officers of the Tajik Drug Enforcement Agency in cooperation with the Afghan law enforcement agencies held 28 operations and confiscated over 3.5 tons of drugs. Regional cooperation in the frame of Anti-Narcotics Quartet (Tajikistan, Russia, Afghanistan, Pakistan), and AKT Initiative (Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan) was praised.
