KHUJAND, December 21, 2013, Asia-Plus -- 3,867 crimes have been reported in Sughd province over the first eleven months of this year, which is 3.7 percent or 144 cases more than in the same period last year.
Chief of the Interior Ministry’s office in Sughd, Sharif Nazarov, stated this at a republican conference in Khujand on December 20. The conference was held to discuss reasons for family quarrels and measures to prevent them.
Speaking at the conference, Sharif Nazarov noted that the number of murders had increased by 7.9 percent and the number of intentional infliction of serious injuries had increased by 5.7 percent. There was 60 percent increase in the cases of illegal possession of weapons, 16.7 percent increase in the extortion cases, and 14.2 percent increase in the cases of hooliganism, the Sughd police chief said.
According to him, nine rape cases, 11 cases of hold-up, 13 cases of extortion, 16 cases of illegal possession of weapons, 34 cases of robbery, 37 cases of intentional infliction of serious injuries, 41 murders, 144 cases of drug trafficking, 282 cases of hooliganism, 491 case so fraud, and 707 cases of theft have been reported in the province over the report period.
