DUSHANBE, July 2, 2014, Asia-Plus -- A multi-stage operation carried out by officers from the counternarcotics agency has reportedly led to the seizure of more than 110 kilograms of raw opium.
Khoushnoud Rahmatulloyev, a spokesman for the Drug Control Agency (DCA) under the President of Tajikistan, says the first stage of the operation was launched in mid-May in Dushanbe’s Firdavsi district and more than 1101 kilograms of raw opium were found hidden in a private house.
Besides, two residents of Dushanbe were arrested on suspicion of drug peddling and a package of narcotic drug that tested positive to raw opium was confiscated from them.
One more resident of Dushanbe was also arrested for drug peddling. A package of hashish was confiscated from him.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the detained drug pushers and an investigation is under way.
