DUSHANBE, January 22, 2015, Asia-Plus – Military Council has met in Dushanbe to review the results of the past year''s activities of the Main Border Guard Directorate of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS).
The SCNS head Saymumin Yatimov and the Main Border Guard Directorate chief Rajabali Rahmonali attended the meeting.
According to the Main Border Guard Directorate press center, Tajik border guards in cooperation with law enforcement authorities seized more than 1,200 kilograms of drugs last year. A totaled reportedly included 67.7 kilograms of heroin, 154.7 kilograms of raw opium, and more than 1,000 kilograms of cannabis.
19 drug traffickers were detained and nearly 400,000 bushes of Indian hemp were destroyed last year.
Last year reportedly saw 18 armed skirmishes between Tajik border guards and armed trespassers. Eleven armed trespassers were killed.
In 2014, Tajik border guards confiscated 22 weapons, including 11 rifles and hunting guns and nearly 1,700 bullets of different caliber, the source said.
