DUSHANBE, January 14, 2016, Asia-Plus -- The Main Border Guard Directorate at the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) yesterday held a meeting to review the results of the past year’s activities, Mohammad Ulughkhojayev, a spokesman for the Main Border Guard Directorate, told Asia-Plus in an interview.
According to him, last year saw 30 skirmishes between Tajik border guards and armed drug traffickers on the Tajik Afghan border.
Sixteen drug smugglers were killed. No casualties were reported among Tajik border guards.
In 2015, Tajik border guards reportedly seized more than 1,200 kilograms of narcotics, including 43 kilograms of heroin and 331 kilograms of raw opium.
24 firearms and more than 1,200 bullets of different caliber were confiscated from drug smugglers, Ulughkhojayev said.
106 trespassers and 376 people wanted by police for various crimes were detained by Tajik border guards last year.
