DUSHANBE, March 30, 2016, Asia-Plus – Two residents of Dushanbe have been jailed for an attempt to join the so-called Islamic State (IS) terrorist group.
According to the Prosecutor-General’s Office, the two decided to join IS group when they were in Russia for seasonal work. They were detained in Turkey and extradited to Tajikistan.
A court in Dushanbe’s Ismoili Somoni district sentenced Botirali Jalolov to seven years in prison. The sentence followed his conviction on charges of preparation for crime and participation in foreign armed conflicts.
Botirali Jalolov was detained in Turkey on November 10, 2015 while trying to illegally cross into Syria.
Meanwhile, a court in Dushanbe’s Firdavsi district sentenced Nazarali Safarzoda to seven years in prison. The sentence also followed his charge of preparation for crime and participation in foreign armed conflicts.
Safarzoda was reportedly detained in Turkey November 29, 2015 while trying to illegally cross into Syria.
