The security of cascades of hydroelectric power plants in mountainous regions is a vital issue that should be discussed during the dialogue between scientists of the countries of Central Asia, believe the President of the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan Farhod Rahimi.
Opening on Friday, August 26, in Dushanbe the International scientific-practical "Seismic safety of the Central Asia" conference Tajik chief scientist noted the need for study of earthquakes and reduce their risks for scientists CA.
"Tajikistan is always open to constructive dialogue on issues of seismic safety", - said the President of AS of the RT.
F. Rahimi said that the issue of the security of cascades of HPP in mountainous regions will be discussed during the final session of the conference, which will take place tomorrow, August 27.
In particular, scientists and experts from different countries will consider the experience of building of large dams and creating large reservoirs, will discuss the evaluation of seismic safety of high dams, the use of seismic monitoring systems to monitor the condition of dams and reservoirs as well as reduce the risk from induced seismicity.
In launched today a two-day event participate the scientists-specialists in the field of seismology from 16 countries and representatives of international organizations – the World Bank, the UN, the Swiss cooperation office and etc.
It is expected that the conference will also consider the prospects of creating a unified system of seismological observations in Central Asia.
