Tajik Interior Ministry’s website reports Tajik police were first to get information about a plot to conduct a series of terror attacks in Russian large cities.
An operation carried out in Russia has led to the arrest of Tajik national I.J., who was going to travel to Syria, by instruction of his brother I.K. fighting in Syria alongside the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants, for carrying out terror attacks, according to the Tajik Interior Ministry’s website.
I.J. was reportedly extradited to Tajikistan. Following his evidence joint operations were carried out by the law enforcement authorities of Tajikistan, Russia and Kyrgyzstan in Moscow and St. Petersburg that led to the arrest of twelve people originating from Central Asia, who were planning to commit a series of terror attacks in the Russian Federation, the Tajik Interior Ministry’s website noted.
A large amount of homemade explosive devices and automatic weapons was reportedly confiscated from them.
As it had been reported earlier, 10 people originating from Central Asia, who were "planning to commit a series of high-profile acts of sabotage and terror in Moscow and St. Petersburg, were detained in an operation in conjunction with the law enforcement authorities of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
The suspects reportedly testified to having contact with ISIS leaders.
