On Monday November 4, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon met in Kuwait City with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism, Vladimir Voronkov, on the sidelines of the High-Level Conference on “Strengthening International Counter-Terrorism Cooperation and Building Agile Border Security Mechanisms – The Kuwait Phase of the Dushanbe Process” that took place there on November 4-5.
The Tajik president’s official website says the parties discussed the effectiveness of Tajikistan’s cooperation with the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and key aspects of the conference proceedings.
Special attention was reportedly given to growing security threats, such as terrorism, extremism, and transnational organized crime.
Both sides confirmed their commitment to strengthening international and regional cooperation in combating these challenges and exchanged views on other issues related to ensuring stability and security in the region and globally.
Some sources say the high-level conference brought together more than 450 participants, including 33 ministers, representatives of UN specialized agencies, 23 international and regional organizations, and 13 civil society organizations.
Jointly organized by the State of Kuwait, the Republic of Tajikistan and the UNOCT, the conference has provided a pivotal platform to enhance regional and international cooperation on border security to combat terrorism and its financing. It also provides an opportunity to exchange experiences and visions, discuss lessons learned from common challenges and ways to confront threats arising from terrorism.
