DUSHANBE, August 14, 2009, Asia-Plus -- The global financial crisis gives even more space for interaction between member nations of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the SCO Deputy Secretary General, Sherali Jononov, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, this is mentioned in a report on development of the SCO, prepared by the Institute for Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies within the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
The report in particular, notes that the global financial crisis not only gives opportunities to the SCO, it also poses multiple challenges; however, it provides more opportunities than challenges, Jononov said.
“Against the backcloth of the crisis, the SCO member nations have shown determination to jointly counter challenges and overcome difficulties that has allowed strengthening solidarity between them,” said the SCO official, “To stimulate domestic demand and revive their economies the SCO member nations are seeking acceleration of the infrastructure construction in the region. Besides, the fall in the international prices of major part of goods leads to the decrease in the cost price of the regional infrastructure construction.”
According to him, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has significant potential for further expansion of economic and humanitarian cooperation.
