DUSHANBE, January 21, 2011, Asia-Plus -- Water meters will be installed in residential buildings in Dushanbe, Deputy Dushanbe Mayor, Sayvali Safarov, told reporters on January 20.
According to him, the Word Bank has provided a US$12 million loan for providing Dushanbe residents with water meters in the framework the Dushanbe Water Supply Project. “The water meters will be installed free of charge,” the deputy mayor said.
Safarov also drew attention of reporters to irrational and wasteful use of water by Dushanbe’s dwellers. “According to data we received, 78 percent of water provided by the Dushanbe Vodokanal (municipal waterworks) to residents of Dushanbe is used for nothing,” noted he municipal official, “To remove these shortcomings the Dushanbe mayor’s office has decided to install water meters in all residential buildings in the city.”
