DUSHANBE, May 27, 2011, Asia-Plus - Migration services from the CIS nations may develop a common migration policy, Russian news agency, RIA Novosti, cited Konstantin Romodanovsky, the chief of Russia’s Federal Migration Service (FMS), as saying.
“Move towards the common migration policy is being taken,” Romodanovsky announced at the ninth meeting of the Council of the Heads of Migration Services of the CIS nations in Troitsk on May 26.
He noted that a document or a statement on relevant bodies’ approach to the migration policy could become an important point. “We may develop position on which activities in the field of migration would be based,” the FMS chief said.
MIR TV reports Romodanovsky stated that steps that were being taken in that area would lead to a full-fledged confederation on the migration issues within the CIS area.
He added that they were also carrying out an active work with the European Union (EU) migration bodies.
The meeting reportedly considered a broad range of issues, including development of the program of cooperation between the CIS nations in countering illegal migration for the period of 2012-2014, creation of a common system of registration of nationals of the third countries and stateless persons entering the CIS nations, as well as implementation of the protocol on exchange of information between the migration services.
