KULOB, January 3, 2012, Asia-Plus -- Two suicides were reported in Khatlon’s Muminobod district on January 2.
Second-grade pupil and 30-year-old unemployed man committed suicide on January 2, the source in the Muminobod police station told Asia-Plus Tuesday afternoon.
According to him, suicide cases are on rise in the area. “In 2011 alone, fifteen suicide cases were registered in the district, while the number of suicide attempts is several times more,” the source said, noting that not all suicide cases are registered.
“Some people conceal the suicide cases; some of them are afraid of legal prosecution for driving to suicide, others watch over family’s reputation, some others conceal suicide cases for religious reason,” he added.
Local experts say many of those who committed suicide were motivated by economic and family problems.
