DUSHANBE, January 10, 2012, Asia-Plus  -- The report released by some media outlets this month with reference to the BBC that a group of Tajik women are working as prostitutes in the Pakistani city of Karachi does not correspondent to the fact.

Davlat Nazriyev, a spokesman for the Tajik MFA, stated this at a briefing in Dushanbe on January 9.  According to him, this report was checked by Tajik diplomatic mission in Pakistan and the Honorary Consul of Tajikistan in Karachi.  “It has been established that reporter for GIO News Group KARACHI, Abid Hasan, published an article on this subject a year ago, but it awoke interests of some media outlets for some reason today,” Nazriyev said.

“According to official information received from the Karachi criminal police, women from some former Soviet republics are working as prostitutes in Karachi, but there is no information that Tajik women are working as prostitutes in Karachi,” the spokesman added.
