DUSHANBE, February 24, 2012, Asia-Plus -- Warmer temperatures are increasing the risk of further avalanches in Tajikistan, where a series of snow-slides have occurred over the past week.
Tajik Hydromet reports a rise in temperatures is expected in the country on February 25-26, February 28-29 and March 2. In plains, temperatures are expected to rise to +15 ºC; in the south of the country, temperatures are expected to rise even to +20ºC.
“The rise in temperatures is increasing the risk of further avalanches in Tajikistan,” said the source, “Mud streams are expected in submountain areas of Sughd and Khatlon provinces and districts subordinate to the center.”
