DUSHANBE, July 6, 2012, Asia-Plus  -- A special department for persons with reading and hearing disabilities has been opened at the National Library of Tajikistan in Dushanbe.

A ceremony of an official opening of the department took place on Friday, July 6.  The event was dedicated to Day of Elderly People and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), which has been marked in Tajikistan on July 8 since 2004.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Regional Center for Serving Pensioners and Persons with Disabilities, the Dushanbe Society for the Blind, the Dushanbe Society for PWDs and Tajikistan’s Society for the Blind and Deaf.

The department for persons with reading and hearing disabilities was established at the library three month ago.  “The department now has 14 audio discs for blind people, some 500 Braille books and a special computer for the blind will be installed in the department within the next few days,” the source said.
