DUSHANBE, September 17, 2012, Asia-Plus -- Prominent Tajik scholar, academician Muhammadjon Shakuri, who is one of the authors of the first law on the state language, died in Dushanbe yesterday morning after a long illness.
Muhammadjon Shakuri, also known as Shukurov was a prominent Tajik intellectual and one of the notable Persian literary figures of 20th century. Among his main works is an explanatory dictionary of the Tajik language. Academician Shakuri also had a significant role in preserving Tajik identity.
Academician Muhammadjon Shakuri will be buried in the Luchob cemetery today at 11:00.
Born on October 30, 1926 in Bukhara, Muhammadjon Shakuri was the son of the prominent Bukhara scholar Sadri Ziyo (1865-1932).
Academician Muhammadjon Shakuri is author of four books and more than 500 articles.
