QURGHON TEPPA, September 20, Asia-Plus  -- In a ruling handed down on September 18 a court in the city of Qurghon Teppa, the capital of Khatlon province suspended activities of local public association, Millennium – Development in Cooperation.

The organization’s lawyer Akbar Hasanov says the court suspended the organization’s activities following an application by the Ministry of Justice, which noted that the organization is allegedly engaged in promoting Christianity and thereby it violated its charter.

“In 2010, the organization employees celebrated the Nativity of Christ and their relatives were also invited to the celebrations,” said the lawyer.  “The Ministry of Justice has decided that the event was of propagation nature.   Meanwhile, sixteen persons have worked with the organization; only two of them are Christians, while the remaining fourteen are Muslims.”

According to him, the organization has been active in the province since 2002 and it has been engaged only in charitable activities, promoting development of sports, arranging English courses and organizing sewing courses for local young women.
