DUSHANBE, October 18, 2012, Asia-Plus -- “The Project for Improvement of Central Hospital in Jaloliddin Rumi District” has been supported by the Government of Japan for the total amount of US$111,281 in the framework of Grant Assistance for the Grass–roots Human Security Projects (GGP).
On October 15, Mr. Takaaki Komatsu, Third Secretary, Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe and Mr. Amrullo Kholov, Chairman of the Rumi district in Khatlon attended a handover ceremony of the successful completion of the project in the district, Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe said.
For more than 20 years, the water and sewerage systems and the boiler room at the hospital had not functioned properly. The employees and the patients had no choice but to depend on external sources of water which is unhygienic and inconvenient. The boiler room had had continuous problems due to frequent blackouts and combustions of electricity line. Lack of adequate medical equipment had also been serious issue for the hospital to provide smooth treatments and to perform operations.
Newly installed water and sewerage system as well as a fully functioning boiler room, which can provide heat in winter, have become reality by the implementation of the project. In addition, the surgical department, the resuscitation department and the maternity department have received medical equipment such as Oxy generator, Horizontal Autoclave and Defibrillator. It is anticipated that more than 3,000 local patients will have access to better medical service at the central hospital in the Jaloliddin Rumi district.
Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. Since 1996, GGP has extended more than US$ 21.4 million for 285 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan.
