DUSHANBE, November 14, 2012, Asia-Plus -- On Tuesday November 13, 2012, President Emomali Rahmon received Ms. Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO (World Health Organization) Regional Director for Europe.
According to the Tajik president’s official website, Zsuzsanna Jakab expressed satisfaction with the results of long-term cooperation between WHO and Tajikistan.
The sides, in particular, discussed cooperation in implementing a new Tajikistan’s national health strategy designed for 2010-2020.
Over the past eight years, WHO has reportedly provided US$19 million worth of assistance to Tajikistan for development of its health sector. Many health development projects, mass immunization campaigns as well as campaigns to prevent and treat infectious diseases have been carried out in Tajikistan under support of WHO.
The World Health Organization (WHO) is the directing and coordinating authority for health within the United Nations system. It is responsible for providing leadership on global health matters, shaping the health research agenda, setting norms and standards, articulating evidence-based policy options, providing technical support to countries and monitoring and assessing health trends.
