DUSHANBE, February 8, 2013, Asia-Plus – Former Tajik Prime Minister Abdumalik Abdullojonov claims his life will be under threat if he is extradited to Tajikistan.

Search News reported this on February 7 while commenting on the Borisopol court’s decision to extend Abdullojonov’s detention for 40 days.

“They want to see me dead.  They will kill me during two or three, maximum four months.  They will do this, I know this well,’ Abdullojonov was quoted as saying.

Abdullojonov noted that he was dissatisfied with the court’s decision and planned to appeal against the verdict.

Adbullojonov’s lawyer, Andrey Fedur, expressed hope that his client would be extradited to Tajikistan.  “There is a real threat to his life in Tajikistan.  My client has a refugee status and he should be protected as refugee.  He is protected by appropriate international convention,” the lawyer said.

The Borisopol court on February 7 ruled that former Tajik Prime Minister Abdumalik Abdullojonov can be held in detention for up to 40 days while authorities await documents from Dushanbe regarding his possible extradition.
