DUSHANBE, July 19, 2014, Asia-Plus -- Users of a number of Internet service providers (ISPs) say they have not had access to the Russian social network site Odnoklassniki since morning of July 19.
Odnoklassniki reportedly stopped being accessible via Saturn Online, Babilion-T, Megafon Tajikistan, Telecom Technology, and Tcell as of July 19.
Meanwhile, Asomuddin Atoyev, the head of the Association of Internet Service Providers of Tajikistan, says he does not know what has happened. “Today is day off, and therefore, I can neither confirm nor deny this,” Atoyev told Asia-Plus in an interview on July 19. “I will be able to say anything only on Monday.”
We will recall that the popular video-sharing website YouTube was partially blocked in Tajikistan again on July 9. ISPs Saturn Online, Babilon-T, Megafon Tajikistan, Telecom Technology, Tcell and some others reportedly blocked access to YouTube following a verbal instruction from the communications service agency.
The Communications Service under the Government of Tajikistan said it had nothing to do with the situation.
Before that, YouTube was partially blocked on June 9, and it was unblocked on June 16.
In the past few years, Tajik authorities have blocked several online news and social-media websites but later unblocked them.
