DUSHANBE, September 4, 2014, Asia-Plus Funded by the Japan’s Grant Assistance for the Grassroots Human Security Projects (“GGP”), the project for rehabilitation of Secondary School # 25 in Kirov Village, Zargar Jamoat, Bokhtar District in Khatlon Province was completed last month.
Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe says 117, 261 U.S. dollars were granted to the local government of the Bokhtar District in order to renovate all three buildings and gymnastic hall of the school.
At the handover ceremony, which was held on September 1, Mr. Jabbor Ghaffor, the Chairperson of the Bokhtar District, expressed his gratitude to the Japanese Government for its continuous support for Tajikistan. Along with the students and teachers of the school, the ceremony was also attended by Mr. Takashi Kamada, Ambassador, Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe.
Prior to the project implementation, the condition of the school building was not in the suitable condition for learning. Water leakage was found in the roof, and some of the severely deteriorated classrooms were not used due to their unsafe condition. In addition, even the classrooms that were being used had some fundamental issues, such as lack of proper flooring and windows.
Through this project, the buildings of School # 25 underwent fundamental renovation that recreated a suitable learning environment for the school’s over 700 students. Japan’s GGP regards access to good education is fundamental rights for all people and a true asset that facilitates the nation’s growth, and continues to provide support for various sectors of Tajikistan.
Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. As of today, GGP has supported 320 projects in Tajikistan, for which more than US$ 25.5 million has been provided since 1996.
