DUSHANBE, January 16, 2015, Asia-Plus -- In a report released at a news conference in Dushanbe, Tajik Minister of Labor, Migration and Employment of Population, Ms. Sumangul Taghoyzoda, revealed on January 15 that the bodies of 862 Tajik nationals were returned to Tajikistan from Russia in 2014.
According to her, the causes of death were murder, disease, accidents, etc.
In 2014, a total of 834,058 people left Tajikistan, the minister noted.
Of them, 670,806 people, including 106,416 women, left the country in search of decent work.
The majority of them, 660,947 people, traveled to the Russian Federation.
Last year, Tajik seasonal workers reportedly also traveled to neighboring Kazakhstan (7,429 people) and Kyrgyzstan (1,301).
Besides, nearly 1,800 Tajik nationals traveled to other CIS countries and the far abroad countries seeking better employment opportunities, Taghoyzoda said.
Last year, 606,527 Tajik nationals, including 453,985 migrant workers, returned to Tajikistan.
It is to be noted that number of labor migrants traveling to Russia reduced due to entrance into the Russian Federation on International Passports (as of January 1, 2015) and due to amendments in the existing Russian Federation legislation on the activities of labor migrants from foreign countries.
