DUSHANBE, March 13, 2015, Asia-Plus – The Government of Switzerland will support implementation of the Tajik Water II Rehabilitation Project, according to the Ministry of Finance (MoF) Secretariat.
A government-to-government between Tajikistan and Switzerland on the Tajik Water II Rehabilitation Project was reportedly signed here on March 12.
The project covers six cities in the northern province of Sughd and Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) with a total population of 140,000.
The project reportedly includes installation of additional connections, installation of water meters, purchase of operation and repair equipment, construction of new water reservoirs, improvement of drainage system, etc.
A total cost of the project is more than 18 million U.S. dollars; 9 million U.S. dollars are provided by the Government of Switzerland in a form of grant and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)’s contribution amounts to more than 9 million U.S. dollars. The project is expected to be completed by 2018.
