DUSHANBE, May 5, 2015, Asia-Plus – Press release issued by Oxfam Tajikistan says that Oxfam will present awards to the winners of TV Competition on “Disaster Risk Reduction and Civil Defense” on the occasion of 70th anniversary of the Victory Day at the square of “2700th Anniversary of Kulob” Memorial Complex on May 5.
Governmental and nongovernmental organizations, civil society, schoolchildren, as well as local population and guests of Kulob City will attend the event.
“Victory Day is an international holiday and a big event in the country and presenting awards in front of large audience will promote a culture of disaster preparedness to a greater extent. Besides, changes in practices, efficient coordination and cooperation leads to substantial reduction in disaster risk”, - said Bojan Kolundjia, Country Director with Oxfam in Tajikistan.
Schoolchildren from 10 schools of Khatlon province took part at the TV Competition held at secondary school number four, from April 16 to April 20. The program of the TV Competition included: introduction to teams, reading of poems on Disaster Risk Reduction, plays on promoting Safety Measures during Emergency Situations, as well as questions and answers.
“The aim of the TV Competition among schools was to prepare schoolchildren for and to cope with natural disasters, raise risk awareness, promote risk reduction education and prevent natural disasters for becoming human tragedies”, - said Asomiddin Safarov, senior specialist, Khatlon education department.
The Competition was organized in cooperation with Committee of Emergency Situations, Education Department and Committee of TV and Radio Broadcasting of Khatlon province.
Oxfam is an international confederation of 17 organizations working together with partners and local communities in more than 90 countries. In Tajikistan, Oxfam is working on economic justice, drinking water and sanitation, and disaster risk reduction.
