DUSHANBE, January 29, 2016, Asia-Plus – The Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan lower chamber of parliament) Environmental Commission has announced a new environmental journalism contest.

Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for Majlisi Namoyandagon, says the contest is open to journalists covering the environmental protection issues and representatives of civil society dealing with the environmental protection issues.

Creative teamworks, journalists, experts and representatives of civil society may compete in the contest.

Articles and documentaries telling problems of climate change, rational use of water and energy resources in the region, rise in public environmental awareness, and waste management as well as environmental problems in border areas may participate in the contest.

Entries must have been published or broadcast.

“The award ceremony for the winners of the contest will take place at the end of the year.  The first place winner will receive 4,000 somoni and the second place and the third place will receive 3,000 and 2,000 somoni,” Sultonov said.  

The purpose of the contest is raising environmental awareness of the population and facilitating public access to environmental information.
